House of -Brick and Water
The ground outside was parched and cracked, with no trace of water in sight. The heat was so intense that it seemed to seep through our shoes, burning our feet with every step. But as we stepped into the house, a shimmering pond greeted us, its cool water reflected the bright sunlight. The moment I dipped my fingers into the water, the intense heat seemed to wash away, replaced by a soothing calmness that spread through my entire being.
Inside, the thick brick walls of the house acted as a fortress against the searing heat, keeping the interior cool and inviting. The courtyard, shaded with intricately designed jali screens on the east side, became a sanctuary. These screens allowed a gentle breeze to flow through, while skillfully blocking the harsh rays of the sun. The temperature dropped noticeably as the breeze
moved from north east to south west side, transforming the oppressive heat into a refreshing treat.
Despite the relentless sun outside, the house remained a heaven of comfort, where the combination of water, shade, and design made it possible to stay cool and at ease. The contrast between the harsh exterior and the serene interior created a space that felt like a hidden oasis in the midst of a desert.
